MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the BC Bottle Depot Association is to advance the best interests of its members and promote sustainable recycling programs that support a healthy environment and benefit the public and our communities.

The BC Bottle Depot Association (BCBDA) is a non-profit organization that represents the best interests of the bottle depot in British Columbia. The Association was incorporated under the Society Act of BC on January 6, 1997.

The Association has a Board of Directors consisting of twelve (12) members of the Association. These twelve members are six (6) Regional Directors, (5) Directors at Large and the Past Chair. The Chair, Chair-Elect and Secretary/Treasurer are elected by the Board at the first meeting following the Annual General Meeting. The Board of Directors meets at least quarterly to deal with the business of the Association. An Annual General Meeting is held each October with all elections being done at that time.

In 2001, an Executive Director was hired to be the chief operating officer of the Association. The Executive Director reports to the entire Board. Among a multitude of other responsibilities, he/she is to act as liaison with government and industry partners and ensuring communication is maintained with the members and the board of directors.

The membership is held in the name of the depot with an authorized representative appointed from the depot and shall have voting privileges while the depot is considered to be in good standing. An Associate member does not have voting privileges. An application for membership is given to the board of directors for approval into the general membership.

Funding for the Association is done through Membership Fees calculated by depot volume. The Association represents all of its members in any negotiations that are required on behalf of the bottle depots. Such examples of this are handling fees, proposals, discussions with government, etc. Being a member of the Association ensures that you are represented in a positive manner with any bottle depot issues.

The Association has also put together websites for the membership and the general public on behalf of its members. www.bcbda.com is a website for the members and has information for the general public. www.mydepot.ca is a listing of all depots that are members of the Association and can be used by the public to locate a depot near them and find the services each depot provides.

If you require any further information please feel free to contact the Association office at (604) 930-0003 or any of the Board of Directors listed on the contacts page.
